WENATCHEE — The Chelan County sheriff’s office says a snowboarder who died at the Stevens Pass ski area was an off-duty employee who has been snowboarding for at least 10 years.
The sheriff’s office has identified the man who died Monday as 31-year-old Kenneth Kelley.
Witnesses told the sheriff’s office he was snowboarding with no helmet in Corona Bowl, which is part of the Mill Valley area on the back side of Stevens Pass.
He was conscious when the ski patrol arrived but lost consciousness at the Nordic Center Lodge and could not be revived.
Stevens Pass Mountain Resort spokesman Chris Danforth said Kelley worked at the resort for five seasons dating back to 2002 and was currently working in the Stevens Pass Rental Tech Center. Danforth said Kelley grew up in Fernwood, Idaho.
Resort General Manager Bill Bourton said the Stevens Pass community “is devastated by the loss of Ken Kelley.”
