The Warriors shot a blistering 15-for-18 from the charity stripe in the final period to stymie Darrington’s comeback attempt and hand the Loggers a season-ending 62-56 loss in a 2B Bi-District 1/2 Tournament game on Tuesday night.
“We got in a hole and had to start fouling to stop the clock,” Darrington head coach Jeff Anderson said. “But we couldn’t get them to miss a free throw.”
Baleigh Rumsey scored 16 points to lead the Loggers, who, after managing to score 29 points through the first three quarters, put up 27 in the fourth.
Part of Darrington’s early struggles could be explained by the early exit of starting post Jordyn Stafford. Stafford, who had 20 points and 13 rebounds in Darrington’s win over Auburn Adventist on Saturday, hurt her knee less than two minutes into the game and never returned.
Stafford’s loss was also felt on the defensive end as the Loggers were forced pack more players in the key, which gave Crosspoint Point’s outside shooters better looks. The Warriors’ Holly Bandara took advantage, making three 3-pointers and scoring a game-high 21 points.
“We had to give more help inside and they were able to kick out,” Anderson said. “We played really well defensively and stopped their inside game for the most part, but they were just shooting really well.”
