LYNNWOOD — A new farmers market is starting in Lynnwood in June.
The Lynnwood Farmers Market is set to run from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursdays from June 12 to Sept. 25 at Wilcox Park.
The market is funded by a federal health grant. City officials hope it will become self-sustaining within three years.
They’ve been hearing from people for a long time who wanted a farmers market, said Marielle Harrington, the city’s healthy-communities program coordinator.
The market will have shopping, crafts, local produce, live music, food trucks and kids activities. City officials hope to draw as many as 2,000 visitors a week.
“For us this is more than just come and buy some kale and apples,” Harrington said. “We’re looking at people coming and spending a few hours on a Thursday evening with others in their community.”
City officials plan to hire a vendor to run the day-to-day operations of the market, she said. The managing vendor will be paid up to $21,000, council documents show. The City Council approved a contract earlier this week.
About 40 additional vendors are expected to sell goods at the market.
