Weather: Learn about weather in the mountains at 7 p.m. on Tuesday at the Mountaineers Seattle program center. Dennis D’Amico, an avalanche meteorologist with the Northwest Avalanche Center, will talk about basic weather patterns in our mountains. He’ll also discuss how to use forecasts for planning and more. Beach: Take a starlight beach walk at Mukilteo Lighthouse Park on Wednesday. The walk is from 7 to 8:30 p.m. A naturalist will guide the walk and talk about what you find. Dress for the weather, wear waterproof shoes and bring a flashlight. Get more info here.
Ocean: Everett Community College’s ORCA program will host an information session at 6 p.m. Thursday* at its waterfront location, 1205 Craftsman Way, Suite 203, in Everett. Visitors and prospective students can see student work, meet faculty members, learn about the program and see the facility, including the oceanography research lab and 120-gallon seawater tank. Expo: The Northwest Outdoor Adventure Expo is Friday to Sunday at CenturyLink Field in Seattle. There will be discussions, slide shows, music and indoor adventures such as a zip line and paddle pool. There will also be a variety of outdoor vendors. Get more info here.

Slimy: Learn all about the fascinating stories of slugs and snails at 7 p.m. March 6 at Northwest Stream Center in Everett. This event is PG-13. No, really. Slugs and snails are more fascinating than you might think and the event is not for little kids. It’s $5 for members or $7 for non-members. Register in advance by calling 425-316-8592. Snow: The Spree at Alpental is March 8. It’s for skiers, boarders and snowshoers. There will be races, gear demos and more. It’s a fundraiser for Outdoors for All. Get more info here.
Beckey: Fred Beckey, a local climbing legend, will speak at 7 p.m. March 8 in Tacoma. Beckey, who has more first ascents than any other climber, is the author of many books about climbing in the Northwest. Tickets for the event, which is expected to sell out, are here.
Bears: Learn all about bears at the Northwest Stream Center at McCollum Park at 1 p.m. on March 8. Learn about bear biology and how to stay safe in bear country. You’ll also get a chance to meet two Karelian bear dogs. Get more info here.
Impressive: Listen to Heather Anderson, who set a record for the fastest known time for hiking the Pacific Crest Trail, speak on March 11 in Bellingham. She will speak at 7:30 p.m. at Backcountry Essentials, 214 W. Holly St., Bellingham.
Birds: John Klicka of the UW Burke Museuem will speak about the bird research done at the museum. He will be at the Pilchuck Audubon Society at 7 p.m. March 15. Get more info here.
