Mariners' Bloomquist collects on Super Bowl bet
“We were on MLB Network,” Bloomquist said. “He was on first and said the Broncos would win 38-3 or something like that. Then they asked me about it, and said what he had picked, and I said, ‘No way.’”
Bloomquist said Aardsma, a big Broncos’ fan, then re-evaluated and predicted a 13-point Denver victory.
“I said, ‘The Broncos aren’t even going to score 13 points if you ask me,’” Bloomquist countered. “No chance. That defense is too good. Too fast and too good.
“I love Peyton Manning, but if he ever scuffles, it’s against fast, physical corners. Fast defenses. That’s Seattle.”
The bet was for a jersey of choice from the winning team. When the Seahawks romped to a 43-8 victory on Feb. 2, Bloomquist simply had to decide which jersey he wanted.
“I was debating on a Richard Sherman (jersey),” he said, “just to really (tick) him off. I should have done just the 12th-man jersey, but I took the Russell Wilson one. Russell Wilson just plays. He’s a baseball guy, too.”
Wilson played in the Colorado Rockies’ minor-league system before choosing to pursue a career in the NFL.
The Bloomquist-Aardsma saga might continue.
“(Aardsma) is with the Indians,” Bloomquist said. “When we play them (this spring), I’ll see if I can possibly wear the Russell Wilson jersey up to bat.”
