Seattle musicians lead creative workshop at Doe Bay

The Doe Bay Resort and Retreat on Orcas Island has become somewhat legendary over the last few years for the annual Doe Bay Fest, maybe the most difficult music festival to gain access to for fans and artists. But Doe Bay is more than just a music festival or a place to recharge.

Meet “Write Doe Bay,” a creative workshop at the Doe Bay Resort that is centered around music and story telling through lyrics. Write Spring will take place from April 3-6. Producers of Write Doe Bay Jesse Michener and Jennifer Beck Furber (who somehow both have three daughters and the exact same birthday?) have curated a fantastic weekend with some of the most creative artists in the Pacific Northwest.

Hosts include Motopony front man Daniel Blue, The Long Winters John Rodderick, slam poet Matt Gano, and author Thor Hanson. I can’t think of a better group or a better location to get creativity brewing.

When I first saw the price of $600 I was a little shocked, but then I thought about what exactly you get for that and it is actually a really sweet deal. In fact, I think I am going to book my stay right now.

Check it out below. Like all Doe Bay experiences this is one you won’t want to miss.

  • Two-plus days of writing workshops with incredible talent
  • Accommodations from Thursday night – Sunday morning with an option to extend your stay into the week at a ridiculous discount. Participants will be housed mainly in the Retreat and Harbor Houses and will be at least double occupancy with shared bathroom facilities. It’s cozy and intimate, kind of like hanging out with 25 of your newest best friends for a weekend slumber party.
  • Chef-prepared meals and snacks from Friday – Sunday morning, including a special dinner at Doe Bay’s famous Cafe on Saturday night. They do their best to help with food allergies and dietary restrictions, but if you need to prepare your own food at your own expense, they can help with that as well. The only meal not covered by your registration fee is Thursday night’s dinner of wood fired pizza at the Open Mic.
