Snohomish County sheriff’s detectives worked through the night after obtaining a judge’s permission to search the shooting scene to gather evidence.
The incident happened around 6 p.m. in the 7000 block of 126th Drive NE, an unincorporated area between Lake Stevens and Granite Falls.
The homeowner and a friend told police that they were in the garage, working on a car, when two men attempted to rob them at gunpoint.
The homeowner’s friend, 33, reportedly pulled a gun from his car and shot one of the suspects. The other intruder ran off, sheriff’s spokeswoman Shari Ireton said.
The injured man was rushed to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle with serious injuries. The homeowner was taken to an Everett hospital for a medical evaluation.
Police haven’t made any arrests, Ireton said Wednesday.
Detectives don’t have enough of a description of the outstanding robbery suspect to ask for the public’s help locating him, she said.
Initial reports indicate that the homeowner and his buddy don’t know the intruders.
The investigation remains ongoing. No other details were immediately available.
