After reading the article “Leveled-out ferries save sizable amount of fuel,” I asked myself a couple of questions. 1. How mentally crippled are these people who run the WSF? 2. Adding weight improves mpg?
How in the world would any boat improve its performance by making it weigh more? By dumping 72.3 tons more weight, which increases the draw of the hull, which means more water is now being pushed out of the way. The deeper a hull sits in the water, the more horsepower is needed. It called friction.
State ferry leaders must have all been selling snake oil, before they got to WSF. None of this fuel saving is possible. More weight, means more horsepower is needed. Simple. Reps. Smith and Seaquist are being mislead, as well as the rest of us. Do the WSF leaders really believe what I read in The Herald?
If so, the tide is rising and the gin is getting low.
