See the nominees: It’s not too late to catch up on some of the Oscar-nominated movies before the Academy Awards show begins at 5 p.m. Sunday. The Alderwood mall theater will show four of the best picture nominees beginning at noon Saturday: “Nebraska,” “Captain Phillips,” “Her” and “American Hustle.” It’s $40 for all four movies. Stand Up Against Cancer: A comedy benefit show for the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center features local comedians Joe Vespaziani, Meredith Flanders, Matt Black, Aaron Kirby and Silas Lindenstein at 7:30 Saturday night at Historic Everett Theatre. All about fruit: The WSU Research and Extension Center in Mount Vernon is holding a Winter Field Day from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday. The event includes grafting and mason bee workshops, pruning demonstrations, and presentations on growing apples and other fruit. The center is at 16650 Highway 536, Mount Vernon.
