Quin Barnard scored 26 points, including the go-ahead 3-pointer with less than 20 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter, and the Irish escaped with a 73-69 win on Friday at Mountlake Terrace H.S.
The Scots hadn’t made a state appearance since 1995 and were less than a minute away from advancing to the 3A quarterfinals, having rallied from an 11-point fourth-quarter deficit to take a 69-68 lead. But Barnard buried a 3-pointer from the corner, his fifth triple of the night, and the Scots couldn’t convert a 3 on their last possession.
Masamba Njadoe led Shorecrest with 23 points and nine rebounds. Conin Oishi added 13 points and Daniel Ghebremichael chipped in with 12 points.
“Masamba had a big night and we had a lot of guys pitch in, but it just wasn’t enough,” Scots head coach Brian Fischer said. “We needed one more bucket, one more stop.”
