REGIONAL PREVIEW: Mountlake Terrace vs. Wilson boys

When: Today, 4 p.m.

Where: Mt. Tahoma H.S.

Records: Mountlake Terrace 17-7; Wilson 20-3

AP rank: Mountlake Terrace NR; Wilson 4th

Scoreczar rank: Mountlake Terrace 10th; Wilson 3rd

Key wins: Mountlake Terrace—Edmonds-Woodway, Shorecrest, Glacier Peak; Wilson—Timberline (twice), Bellarmine Prep, Union, Franklin, Lincoln (twice), Foss (three).

How they got to regionals: Mountlake Terrace beat Marysville Pilchuck in the District 1 third-place game to earn the district’s No. 3 seed. Wilson lost to Lincoln in the District 3/4 championship game to earn the district’s No. 2 seed.

Players to watch: Mountlake Terrace—Greg Bowman, P; Loren Lacasse, P; Yoel Tekle, P; Isaiah Green, G; Wilson—Ivy Smith Jr., G; David Jenkins, G; Alphonso Anderson, G/W; Jamal Welch, G/W; Keun Thompson, G.

Breakdown: These are two teams built on contradictions. Mountlake Terrace is a team built around post players like Bowman and Lacasse who can live on the perimeter and hit shots, while Wilson is populated with athletic guards who can post up and live down low. Wilson has waves of athletic playmakers with length like Anderson, Welch and Thompson. The Rams also have a pair of strong ballhandlers in Smith Jr. and Jenkins. This could give the Hawks, who have had issues with guard play all season, fits. Mountlake Terrace’s young guards like Green and Prescott Day must play the game of their lives if the Hawks want to return to Tacoma.
