MOUNTLAKE TERRACE — Freshman Corey Kispert scored a game-high 24 points to lead King’s past Hoquiam in a Class 1A regional playoff game Friday at Mountlake Terrace High School.
With the victory, King’s (23-2) moves on to the state quarterfinals next week in Yakima. The loss ended Hoquiam’s season.
Kispert, a 6-foot-4 guard/forward, scored the majority of his points from 3-point range. He made 7-of-12 3-point attempts.
King’s led 36-28 at halftime, then blew the game open in the second half by outscoring the Grizzlies 47-23.
The King’s coaches praised the play of 6-foot-6 junior Brett Jones for being a presence on both ends of the floor, citing his rebounding, defense and ability to track down loose balls. Jones finished with 11 points.
Junior Calvin Kispert also scored in double figures for the Knights, finishing with 14 points.
Jerod Steen and Evan Newton led Hoquiam with 11 points each.
