Where: Kent-Meridian H.S.
Records: Stanwood 22-1; Foss 13-7
AP rank: Stanwood 2nd; Foss NR
Scoreczar rank: Stanwood 5th; Foss 15th
Key wins: Stanwood—Enumclaw, Arlington, Union, Shorecrest, Glacier Peak, Mountlake Terrace (twice); Foss—Timberline (twice), Union, Kennedy.
How they got to regionals: Stanwood lost to Shorecrest in the District 1 championship game to earn the district’s No. 2 seed. Foss beat Timberline in the District 3/4 third-place game to earn the district’s No. 3 seed.
Players to watch: Stanwood—Josh Thayer, G; Drew Stang, P; Ian Zipp, G; Brady Garcea, G; Skout Roberson, W; Foss—Armond Davis, G; Olashawan Miller, F; Chris Reynolds, F; Michael Cocke, G.
Breakdown: Foss revolves around the trio of Davis, Miller and Reynolds. All three are 6-foot-4 and above and can play on both ends of the court, with Davis, a lanky shooting guard headed to Seattle University, as the ringleader. Davis, who transferred from Lincoln over the offseason, averaged 26.5 points per game this season in leading the Falcons to the state regionals. Stanwood counters with three scrappy guards in Thayer, Zipp and Garcea and big man Stang, who, at 6-8, could give Foss fits (Davis is the Falcons’ tallest player at 6-5). The Spartans must take Davis out of his game and pressure the rest of Foss’ ballhandlers like Cocke to win this game. Also Roberson will be called upon to play tough defense on players like Reynolds.
