Seems Like Yesterday

50 years ago (1964)

Graduate of a technical training course for members of the Air Force Medical Service at Greenville AFB, Miss., was A-3c Robert Wilson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Chester Wilson, 2712 Norton Ave., he was assigned to duty at Brooks AFB, Texas.

Dark horse Cascade edged its way into the finals of the Northwest District AA Basketball Tournament when the team staved off a last gasp Mount Vernon assault, 59-58. Scoring Bruins were Blaine Ellis, Lou Stevenson, Ron Kahns, Gary Brown and Terry Hammond.

25 years ago (1989)

David Deardorff, a freshman at Everett High School, sloshed through snow and ice along Colby Avenue on his way to school this morning. Throughout Snohomish County winter-weary commuters were forced to abandon thoughts of spring as they struggled to work in winter conditions.

Apples and other produce in the bins of county grocery stores were not tainted with the agricultural chemical known as Alar, according to local store officials. Supermarket chains here — Safeway, Albertson’s, Fred Meyer, Thriftway and Olson’s — that purchased produce through Associated Grocers, refused to sell Alar-treated apples.
