Over-reach is warning sign
Now Inslee has taken a page out of Obama’s (“If you don’t do what I ask, I’ll just issue an executive order and bypass the people, Congress and the Constitution.”) philosophy. When a reporter questioned Obama about this, his response was “I’m the president! I can do whatever I want!” While Inslee may have the legal right to issue a moratorium on the death penalty in Washington, he is still bypassing the will of the people and the laws of this state. And he is doing this without consulting the Legislature, the law enforcement branch of the state or the people that matter the most — the families of the victims of those on death row. Whether you are for or against the death penalty, this should be up to the people, not a unilateral power grab by the governor.
When we have politicians at every level of government trying to rule by executive order instead of working with the branches of government that represent the people (Congress and the state legislatures), we should be afraid — very afraid — no matter what your political leanings are. As was the case in Nazi Germany, we can stand by and wring our hands and do nothing and suddenly wake up and find that we have lost our country and the constitutional principles it was founded upon along with our freedoms or we can say “enough is enough.” We are stuck with Gov. Inslee and President Obama for another three years, but starting with the upcoming 2014 elections, we can start taking our country back along with our freedoms. God Bless America!
