Monroe Public Schools invites parents and guardians with children ready to start kindergarten in September to informational meetings scheduled tonight at 6:30 at each elementary school.
The meetings are expected to include discussion of curriculum and the registration process.
Parents can turn in registrations during the meeting or on the following school days from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. and 1 to 3 p.m.
State law requires incoming kindergarten students to have current immunizations by the first day of class. Students must be age 5 by Aug. 31 to enroll this fall. The child’s official birth certificate is required.
The standard kindergarten program has students attending a two full days a week and some Fridays. A half-day, every day option is also expected to be offered to families willing to provide mid-day transportation.
Families may also choose to pay tuition for extended kindergarten, which includes a full day of instruction. Those qualifying for the federal free or reduced price meal program may receive discounted tuition.
Frank Wagner Elementary offers a dual-language program and extended-day instruction for all kindergarten students with funding from the federal government. Students receive placement on a first-come, first-served basis. Bus service is only provided to families living in the school’s transportation area.
Maltby Elementary School hosts a Montessori program that is open for kindergarten students on an all day, every day schedule. Families pay tuition for the additional instruction.
