The incident Monday at an apartment in the 400 block of 85th Place SW sent one man to the hospital with stab wounds and led to the precautionary lockdown of nearby Horizon Elementary School.
A police dog was used in the search that ended two hours after the attack. The suspect, 19, was found hiding in bushes behind a building near his mom’s home.
His mother told police that he had called her and asked to be picked up because he didn’t feel safe, according to a search warrant. The woman heard the man’s uncle, 25, screaming in the background. Police reported the victim had been stabbed in the back and had defensive wounds to his hands.
She told police that her son has no issues with his uncle and wouldn’t hurt him if he was thinking clearly, the search warrant said.
Her son had been prescribed Risperidone, a drug used to treat schizophrenia and certain problems caused by bipolar disorder, but she said she didn’t believe he had been taking it.
A family friend helped break up the confrontation inside the apartment.
Police recovered a folding knife and a screwdriver that appeared to have been used in the attack. They were found on the kitchen table.
The suspect was arrested for investigation of domestic violence first-degree assault and booked into the Snohomish County Jail. He is being held on $150,000 bail. No charges have been filed.
