Woman who stole from water district gets 2 years
The U.S. attorney’s office says 41-year-old Jackee Bormann-Zweekhorst was also ordered Tuesday to pay more than $404,000 in restitution. That figure includes money spent uncovering the seven-year fraud at the district.
U.S. Attorney Jenny Durkan says the woman “made it her job” to steal at least 5 percent of the water district’s annual budget each year.
In her earlier guilty plea to wire fraud, the woman acknowledged using a variety of schemes to steal the money, including falsifying time cards so that her children were paid for work they never performed for the water district.
Prosecutors said she also used the water district credit card for personal items, including hot tub parts, boating and automotive equipment and rental car expenses.
