Players to watch
Lynnwood—Jasmin Edwards, Sr., PG; Mikayle Pivec, So., P; Jordyn Edwards, So., G/W; Grace Douglas, Sr., G; Kelsey Rogers, Fr., P.
Kentwood—Sarah Toeaina, Sr., G; Jenny Johnson, Sr., F; Kelsey Fast, Fr., G; Kate Kramer, Sr., F; Alycea DeLong, Sr., F.
These teams are meeting at state for the second straight season. Last year, Kentwood upset Lynnwood 61-60 in a double overtime regional game, handing the Royals just their second loss of the year and ending Lynnwood's season. Kentwood post Kylee Ashley has graduated but Johnson — who had 18 points and 19 rebounds in the Conqueror's last game against Lynnwood — returns along with three other senior leaders in Toeaina, Kramer and DeLong. The Conquerors are led by Toeaina, who leads Kentwood in scoring, averaging more than 19 points per game. Kentwood is no stranger to the Tacoma Dome, having made the trip to the state tournament the past nine straight years, including in 2009 when they beat Snohomish in the state championship game. This is Lynnwood's first time at Tacoma since 2010. None of the current players on the Royals' roster have played a state game in Tacoma. After defeating Lynnwood last season, Kentwood went 0-2 at the state tournament. This year Lynnwood will be looking for a little revenge when the teams square off this morning.
