Weekend fun: Mussels, music, dogs, theater and more

Mussels: Up for a trip to Whidbey? Saturday is day one of the annual Penn Cove Mussel Fest in Coupeville. You’ll find contests, kids’ activities, entertainment and food. Chowder down to your hearts content. The festival continues Sunday. Go here for more information.

Mountain men: The Cascade Mountain Men will be at the Evergreen State Fairgrounds in Monroe from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday with a pioneer craft show and muzzle-loading exhibition. Admission is $5 and no charge for children under 12. Go here for more information.

Wag: NOAH animal adoption center is holding a fundraising comedy show, dinner and auction at 5 p.m. Saturday in the Orca Ballroom at the Tulalip Resort and Casino near Smokey Point. “Laugh Your Tail Off” features comedians Ivan Decker, Neill McLaughlin, Jen Seaman and Damian Johnson. Tickets are $95 and are available by calling 360-629-7055 or online here.

On air: It’s always a hoot at the Hometown Hootenanny at Everett Historic Theatre. “On the Air” features a radio-style theme. The fun begins at 7:30 Saturday night at the theater, 2911 Colby Ave., Everett. The box office opens at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $5 to $17. Call 425-258-6766 for purchase information.

Jazz: The DeMiero Jazz Fest runs through Saturday in Edmonds. There are concerts each evening as well as clinics for musicians. Learn more in our story here.

Theater: Check out Village Theatre’s take on “The Foreigner.” Writer Gale Fiege says “‘The Foreigner’ is an award-winning comedic farce that remains true to its 1980s sensibilities. It feels slightly dated, but Yorkey expects good comedic timing and fast-moving action from his cast. And they deliver.” The play shows at various times Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
