WALLA WALLA — A Milton-Freewater man is accused of smuggling a cellphone and marijuana into the Washington State Penitentiary last year when he worked there as a correctional officer.
Omar Dejesus Meza, 31, was charged Tuesday in Walla Walla County Superior Court with introducing contraband and delivering marijuana.
The Union-Bulletin reports he has not been arrested but is being summoned to court for an April 7 appearance on the charges.
Police said Meza wanted to make money after a drop-off in overtime pay. He resigned from the prison in July.
