Report: Red Bryant heading to Jacksonville

As expected, former Seahawks defensive lineman Red Bryant didn’t last long in free agency.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Bryant, who was released by the Seahawks in a salary cap-saving move, has agreed to a four-year deal with the Jacksonville Jaguars.

In Jacksonville, Bryant will reunite with Jags head coach Gus Bradley, who was Bryant’s defensive coordinator in Seattle from 2009 to 2012. Bradley’s presence in Jacksonville also means Bryant will be going to a defense that fits him schematically. Bryant should also bring strong leadership to a young Jaguars locker room, having provided the same thing as a veteran voice in Seattle.

While free agents like Michael Bennett and Golden Tate must wait until Tuesday to sign with new teams—they can sign with their current team at any time—players who were released such as Bryant and Sidney Rice are free to sign immediately.
