Party like it's 1989

Cassettes will be sold on the grounds: The mayor of Monroe is balking at a request from organizers of a music festival at Lake Tye Park for $65,000 to help put on a show this summer — even though last year's event was a sparsely attended money-loser.

Last year's show featured members of Blues Traveler, Supertramp, Santana and Chicago. Sorry, but without Spin Doctors, Hootie and the Blowfish, and Ace of Base on the bill, The Buzz just doesn't see how this thing can succeed.

Bill-yuns and bill-yuns: "Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey," an update of the 1980 Carl Sagan classic, premiered Sunday on the Fox network.

In it, host Neil deGrasse Tyson rides a space surfboard through a computer-generated galaxy. Spoiler alert: On his travels, Tyson drops by the planet where Russian President Vladimir Putin is living these days.

Don't know much about history: On this day in 1973, Pink Floyd released "Dark Side of the Moon."

It took 41 years, but today residents of Washington and Colorado can listen to this record in the manner in which it was intended without breaking the law.
