The ship’s mission will be to assist drug-enforcement efforts off the coasts of Central and South America, and in the Caribbean Sea.
Known as Operation Martillo, the operation was launched in 2012 to target illicit trafficking routes. Fourteen countries are participating. From the U.S. side, it includes other assets from the U.S. Coast Guard and Navy.
The Ingraham is an Oliver Hazard Perry-class guided-missile frigate. Leading its crew is Cmdr. Joey Frantzen of Saint Donatus, Iowa. The ship’s motto is the “last and the finest.”
