Help for food banks good step

Thank you to the Washington state Senate and House for recognizing the importance food banks have in combating hunger in our state. By including additional funding for food banks in their budgets, you are providing local food banks with the money they desperately need and the ability to use it in ways that make sense for them. While this additional funding will not solve the problem of hunger, especially when other critical programs did not receive additional funding in both budgets, it takes a remarkable step in the right direction for food banks.
All of our Volunteers of America Western Washington Food Banks (in Everett, South Everett, Greenwood, Mill Creek and Sultan) will see additional food come through our doors because of your actions. These dollars allow us to purchase the nutritionally dense items that aren’t often donated.
EFAP funding is an investment in our community and families here in Everett. These additional funds will increase the amount of food reaching our neighborhoods and families who need it most. When our communities are fed, we are more stable and better able to work towards economic recovery and growth.
In a world of plenty, there is no excuse for there to be hungry families here in Washington.
