EDMONDS — Re-elected just months ago, Edmonds School Board President Susan Phillips stepped down Tuesday to devote more time to caring for her ailing husband.
In a resignation letter, Phillips said she was grateful to the rest of the board for excusing her recent absences, but added that her husband Ron’s “significant health challenges” now pose a longer-term challenge. “In this light, I am trying to shed as many other responsibilities as I can.”
Superintendent Nick Brossoit praised Phillips, who was first appointed to the board in November 2007, then elected in 2009 and re-elected in November. “She has added so much value to our schools in her service and we will miss her,” he said.
The board will now take steps to appoint a replacement to serve out the rest of Phillips’ term, through November 2017. Phillips represents District 4, which encompasses much of Lynnwood west of I-5.
