Seattle Symphony flutist featured with Cascade Symphony

Demarre McGill, principal flutist for the Seattle Symphony, is the featured soloist with the Cascade Symphony Orchestra at its next concert, 7:30 p.m. Monday at the Edmonds Center for the Arts.

McGill will play the Flute Concerto in D Major by Carl Reinecke.

McGill also serves as principal flute for the Dallas Symphony Orchestra and previously held that position with the San Diego Symphony. He has performed as soloist with the Philadelphia Orchestra and the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, among others. An active chamber musician, he participates in numerous chamber music festivals around the country.

The Reinecke concerto was one of the composer’s final works. Though written in 1908, it is from the Romantic period of the previous century.

The concert program also includes Khachaturian’s “Masquerade Suite” and the “Polonaise” by Liadov.

Beethoven’s Symphony No. 4 completes the program. Leonard Bernstein once described the B-flat minor Adagio of the first movement of the symphony as a “mysterious introduction which hovers around minor modes, tip-toeing its tenuous way through ambiguous unrelated keys to settle down into its final B-flat major.”

A pre-concert lecture will be given at 6:30 p.m. by Dave Beck of KING radio (98.1 FM).

The concert is mostly sold out. Determined people seeking tickets often have good luck by contacting the center’s box office, 410 Fourth Ave. N., on the day of the concert.

Get a jump on tickets for other Cascade concerts by going online to www.ec4arts.org or by calling 425-275-9595.

The orchestra’s annual Ensemble Concert, featuring members of the symphony, is set for 3 p.m. April 13 at Edmonds United Methodist Church, 828 Caspers St. Tickets are $15 or $10 for children 12 and under.

On May 12, Natalya Ageyeva is scheduled to play Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 3. Wagner’s “Overture to the Opera Rienzi “and “Classical Symphony” by Prokofiev complete the program. A limited number of tickets remain for this concert.

Tickets for the 2014-15 season will be available beginning at the concert on May 12.
