50 years ago (1964)
Frank A. Patterson was named Everett’s police chief and William A. Kidder was reappointed fire chief by A.E. (Bud) Alexander, newly elected commissioner of safety. Patterson, who replaced George Nelson, starts his new position April 6. Alexander said both chiefs were dedicated public servants.
Everett’s Babe Ruth League was holding its first meeting later this week in the Great Northern station at 2900 Bond St. President Stewart Aldcroft said all coaches and other who planned to be active in the league should be present.
25 years ago (1989)
City planner Gerry Irvine explained plans for building a wetland on Jetty Island. Clean sand dredged from the Snohomish River would be used to create a berm adjacent to the northwest shore creating a tidal inlet. Part of the land would be planted with natural vegetation forming a saltwater marsh.
Chuck Moser, Everett planning commission member, was making a bid for the City Council. He would run for the seat being vacated by Connie Niva. Moser said it was time for someone in the working world to get involved in city politics. Moser and his wife, Helen, had two children and three grandchildren.
