50 years ago (1964)
Kids in the neighborhood constructed a snow house in the back yard of the Ray Scheldt property at 5019 Rucker Ave. Among those enjoying the Eskimo-like structure were Bo Reid, Pete Scheldt, Charlie Baker and Kenan Scheldt.
For the second consecutive year the Honor Society at Olympic Junior High School had made a sizable contribution to the Christmas Basket Clearance Bureau. Handing the check for $101 to Don Chase, bureau treasurer, was Patty Verhey, president of the group. Others were Barbara Hawley Lee Faffz and Bob Gundlach. Claude Indall was faculty representative.
25 years ago (1989)
At the end of a two-week “dog and pony show” Mike Deller and John Thoresen of the Economic Development Council of Snohomish County sat with top Korean officials trying to sell the county to Pacific Rim businesses. This would become more important in the new decade.
It was the end of the year. It was the end of the 1980s. Lis Masi was retiring from writing Seems Like Yesterday. Lew Ramstad and Jack O’Donnell had spent much of the past month looking through January copies of Heralds from 1940 and 1965, as they would start writing the feature in 1990.
