Super Kid: Kira Bryant, Marysville Mountain View

Question: The Marysville School District has many options for high school. Why did you choose Marysville Mountain View?
Answer: I skipped eighth grade. I knew one person here. It was my best friend (Faith Fitch). It turned out to be one of the best decisions of my life. I’m ahead in credits. I can graduate early.
Q: I understand you have taken Running Start classes at Everett Community College. Tell me about that.
A: I took a history class for one quarter and an art class. I was able to get those credits and I was still able to be in leadership here and take my other classes. I’m not in Running Start this quarter. I wanted to, but my schedule was too filled up this quarter. I also started drivers ed.
Q: What’s your favorite subject in school.
A: Science. I want to go to college and study marine biology.
Q: Marine biology?
A: It all started with a trip to the ocean when I was 3. It was the Oregon coast and it was such a great time. I can’t wait for the day I get to swim with a shark. There is so much down there that is not known and it is so beautiful. I’m also interested in the culinary arts. My dad, before he passed, was a chef at a five-star restaurant. I was 6 when he died.
Q: I understand you are involved in leadership at your school. Tell me about that.
A: Freshman year I was really shy, but I was encouraged to get involved. I have been able to be part of some good things. I’ve helped with orientation and the food drive. We collected 900 pounds of food for the Marysville Food Bank.
Q: Your principal mentioned you are really involved in your school’s chapter of Family, Career and Community Leaders of America.
A: My teacher, Miss (Judy) Whitman, suggested it and I’m saying, “No, I don’t like talking in front of people.” But I joined. It has been great. Me and Jenaya (Greenleaf) competed in regionals, state and nationals last year and we did really well. Our event was “Life Event Planning.” Nationals was in Nashville, Tenn., and I got to travel. We were there for a week.
Q: What do you like to do for fun?
A: I like to hang out with friends. We walk around town. We go get our nails done. We do a lot of picking flowers and things. I also like to play guitar. I’m still learning and I’m not very good yet. I also love drawing.
Q: Do you have a favorite book?
A: I love the Maximum Ride series (by James Patterson). It’s fiction, fantasy and it’s super exciting.
Q: Do you think you’ll be taking more Running Start classes?
A: I’m planning on it. If not this quarter, maybe later. I loved the community college. It’s a great place. The teachers are great. I just couldn’t fit it in.
Q: Why do you like your school so much?
A: It’s small. I love how the teachers and students know each other. I don’t think there is one teacher here who doesn’t know every student’s name.
