GRANITE FALLS — Granite Falls freshman Dannica West’s single with two outs in the bottom of the eigth drove in the game-winning run as the Tigers beat Archbishop Murphy in extra innings on Friday
Tigers freshman Taylor Arndt led off the eighth inning with a single and advanced to second on a passed ball. After moving to third on a sacrifice bunt, Arndt was knocked in on West’s walk-off single as Granite Falls improved to 2-0 in conference play and 2-1 overall.
“She’s been clutch through the first three games,” Granite Falls assistant head coach Dale Welk said of West. “I was pretty confident that she was going to come through.”
The Tigers held a 9-4 lead after the first four innings, but the Wildcats responded to score a combined five runs in the fifth and sixth, tying the score at 9. Granite Falls committed nine errors on the afternoon, helping fuel the Archbishop Murphy comeback.
Arndt finished 4-for-5, including a double and a triple, and had three RBI to lead the Tigers. Junior Lauren Harding earned the victory on the mound, improving to 2-1 on the season.
“They were pitching her away and she was going with them,” Welk said of Arndt. “She’s really good at seeing pitches and squaring the ball up.”
Baylee Robertson led the Wildcats with a pair of doubles.
