I read with great dismay the recent spate of letters about disabled drivers unable to get assistance pumping gas. I’d like to see Snohomish County follow Broward County’s countywide mandate in Florida that requires gas stations to post a phone number on their pumps for contacting the clerk inside the station or, to provide an intercom at the pump so disabled drivers can request help with refueling. I believe it was a disabled veteran’s group that got the ball rolling on that. Be pretty awesome to get something similar here. And, if stations fear misuse, maybe requiring a disabled permit sticker or license be visible on the vehicle would be an acceptable option.
