SNOHOMISH — A key save by goalkeeper Lucas MacMillan and the play of senior midfielder Peter Vizzoni led Glacier Peak to a 2-1 overtime victory over Meadowdale in a Wesco 3A South match played at Glacier Peak on Tuesday night.
Vizzoni assisted on both goals for the Grizzlies, the first coming in the 50th minute on a pass to Grayden Saunders. The second came three minutes into overtime when he set up fellow senior Sam Hryciuk for the game-winner.
“Peter is a bulldog,” said Glacier Peak head coach Kyle Veach. “He will put his nose anywhere at anytime. In times of need he’s able to provide leadership on a night like tonight where we weren’t able to play at our best.”
The Grizzlies appeared to have the match in hand after a key save by MacMillian on a penality kick by Mavericks midfielder Tristan Springer in the 70th minute. However in the final minute of regulation, Griffin Over managed to get the ball passed MacMillan on a pass from Stuart Smith that tied the match at 1-1.
“Meadowdale was surging forward,” Veach said. “They were creating a lot of opportunities, momentum had definitely swung their way (in the closing minutes). But our boys were fired up and determined to win the match. I think we’re the type of team that when we get into overtime that we will always be determined to win”
