SNOHOMISH — Lake Stevens rode the arm of senior Taylor Shea, who pitched seven scoreless innings, to defeat Wesco 4A North Rival Snohomish 1-0 Wednesday afternoon.
“He was awesome, especially for this early in the year,” Lake Stevens head coach Rodger Anderson said of Shea. “He was really, really good. Got a lot of ground balls and we played good defense behind him.”
The Vikings scored their lone run in the top of the seventh. Senior Matt Del Fante advanced to first after being hit by a pitch. He then stole second and scored after a ground ball by senior Zach Tetrick rolled off the second baseman’s glove.
Both teams had chances to score earlier on in the game but neither was able to come through.
“Thats the game of baseball,” Anderson said. “The whole game was two really good high school pitchers going at it.”
Ryan Sandifer went the distance for the Panthers, allowing just four hits over seven innings.
“He really kept us off balance, I was impressed,” Anderson said of Sandifer. “He mixed it up a lot and kept us off the whole game.”
Wednesdays win improved the Vikings to 3-0 in Wesco 4A league play and 5-2 overall. The Panthers are now 3-2 in league play and 6-2 overall.
“Its been really hard to win at Snohomish over the years so for us to get a close win like today builds our confidence,” Anderson said.
