U.S. Open loses help of Wash. state patrol for now
The News Tribune reports that local officials had hope to receive traffic control and other help from state troopers during the event at the Chambers Bay Golf Course in University Place.
Inslee said he vetoed the budget provision because it didn’t include money for the agency to take on the additional duties.
Inslee had previously recommended $400,000 for the State Patrol to help with the golf championship but that money didn’t make it into the budget that passed the Legislature.
The governor said he’s optimistic that lawmakers will set aside money next year for the patrol to help with the June 2015 event.
