Prep softball: Cascade 14, Kamiak 13

EVERETT — A wild seventh inning and an illegal pitch call scored the game-tying run before a sacrifice fly ended it, giving Cascade a 14-13 victory over Kamiak in a Wesco 4A South game played on Monday afternoon.

The seventh inning began with the Knights down seven runs. An Antionette Watson grand-slam would put Kamiak right back into the game and the Knights eventually took the lead going into the home half of the seventh.

The Bruins loaded the bases with one out when the illegal pitch was called, scoring the tying run. One batter later, Taryn Salter connected on a deep fly ball that would score the game-winning run for the Bruins.

“I didn’t hear exactly what the illegal pitch call was,” said Cascade head coach Kelly Ross. “I believe (the pitcher) didn’t bring the ball to her glove. It’s a minor thing but an illegal pitch is a ball and the runners automatically advance.”

Salter finished the game batting 2-for-5 with three RBI. Chloe McIntosh added three hits and a homer for the Bruins in the victory.
