INDEX — A live, downed power line across U.S. 2 east of Index shut down the highway for three hours Saturday, said Trooper Mark Francis of the Washington State Patrol.
The incident was reported at 4:47 p.m. at milepost 39, he said. No injuries were reported.
The roadway had to be kept closed because the wire was still live, Francis said. The eastbound lane was open to alternating traffic as of 7:40 p.m.
The power line started a small brush fire beside the westbound lane of U.S. 2, Frances said.
“They believe it was a tree branch that sheared the power line,” he said.
The wire is part of Puget Sound Energy’s network and fire crews had to wait for the utility to respond before opening the road, according to Francis.
