After consecutive singles put the winning run in scoring position, Longaker connected for his fourth hit of the day and kept the T-birds perfect season intact. They are now 12-0 on the season.
“I was just hoping he would get the right pitch to hit and he did,” Shorewood head coach Wyatt Tonkin said. “He put a good swing on it and it was really fun to watch.”
Shorewood senior Sam Boone started the game on the mound for the T-birds, allowing just two runs over seven innings pitched. Teammate Steffan Torgersen pitched three innings of scoreless relief to earn the win for Shorewood.
“That was his first appearance of the year and he didn’t walk anybody, which is huge in high school ball,” Tonkin said of Torgersen. “One of the keys to the game was his ability to throw strikes.”
For Mountlake Terrace, senior Dominic DeMiero gave up just two runs over nine innings before handing the ball over to Jason Shevenko, who gave up the hit to Longaker and suffered his first loss of the season. Offensively, Shevenko tallied three of Terrace’s five hits, finishing 3-for-5 with two doubles and two RBI.
