Marysville Pilchuck's Joyner commits to Washington State

Marysville Pilchuck running back Austin Joyner has verbally committed to play football for Washington State University, according to a tweet the junior posted on Friday afternoon.

Joyner had originally committed to play football at the University of Washington in late November. But he withdrew that commitment when former Husky head coach Steve Sarkisian left to become the new head coach at the University of Southern California.

Joyner, who was named The Herald's Offensive Player of the Year this past fall, ran for 1,511 yards -- averaging 15.1 yards per carry -- with 21 touchdowns. The 5-foot-10, 190-pound back had the second-highest rushing total in Wesco 3A and scored once every five times he touched the ball to help lead the Tomahawks to the first round of the 3A state tournament. Joyner was also a starting safety on MP's defense.
