Everett High School’s lip dub is an ode to the Seahawks

The students at Everett High School did something pretty cool and we are just going to say it qualifies as local music news.

There is a competition between local schools in the area to create the best lip dub video and this is the third year that the Seagulls from EHS have participated. Their entry of “I’m the (12th) Man” is going to be a tough one to beat.

You might remember those Beats by Dre advertisements that started during the NFL playoffs earlier this year featuring a very smug looking 49ers Quarterback Colin Kaepernick and the song “I’m the Man” by Aloe Blacc. Yeah, that commercial that made scream at the TV during the NFC title game (which the Seahawks won). Well the students at Everett High School have done their part to make sure that when people hear that song they will think of the 12th Man.

“Ultimately, it’s been tough for the student body to feel connected. The 12th Man runs deep here in Everett; we took advantage of that passion and wanted to capture it on camera” said Liza Wagner, the chair of the EHS Lip Dub committee, which also includes Luke Swatosh, Jalen Echols, and Larissa Rogers.

The video has been getting a lot of attention, including from the Seattle Seahawks organization, which contacted Everett High School today to ask for permission for the team to use the video. So be on the lookout for that later.

As a Seagull myself I must say that I am proud of my alma mater today.

“In the true ‘Everett man ‘til I die’ spirit, I think this is something we can all be proud of for quite a long time” said Wagner.

The video was directed and edited by Liza Wagner and filmed by Terence Starzl.

Not to be outdone, Arlington High School has released its entry in the lip dub competition. It features a medley of classic and modern Northwest rock, including Macklemore, Heart and Nirvana. Check it out:
