Giant yard sale, plant sales head a busy weekend to-do list

Plant sales: It’s plant sale season. Check here for our listings. There are eight this weekend alone.

Spring fest: The Evergreen State Spring Festival is Friday, Saturday and Sunday at the fairgrounds in Monroe. There will be a carnival, beer garden, root beer garden, music, entertainment, food and more. Get the details here.

Music Hear siblings Sarah and Aaron Hall perform with the Skagit Symphony on Saturday. They will play Brahms’ Double Concerto in A minor for Violin and Cello. Gear Up: An outdoors expo with gear, demos, speakers, a climbing wall and more is Saturday and Sunday in Everett. More info here.

Yard sale: It’s a yard sale on steroids. The Great Mukilteo Garage Sale is Saturday; it includes south Everett, Picnic Point and Serene Lake. Sellers set their own hours. Also there will be 26 tables at Rosehill Community Center. Get more info in our story here.

Salmon: A salmon barbecue is from 11:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at 32630 Highway 20, Oak Harbor. Proceeds will go to help people in the community who cannot afford vision or hearing care.

Downton: Food historian Tames Alan demystifies the manners, menu and accoutrements of a formal 12-course dinner as would have been eaten upstairs at Downton Abbey before the outbreak of World War I. The event is from 2 to 3 p.m. on Saturday at the Mukilteo Library, 4675 Harbour Pointe Blvd.

A new venue: The Cannery, a new music venue in downtown Everett, will open its doors on Saturday night. Five local bands will play with doors opening at 7 p.m. Find out more here.

Swap: The Boom City Swap Meet opens for the season Saturday. It will operate Saturdays and Sundays from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. through early September. The meet includes food vendors, including Native American barbecued salmon and fry bread, hand-made arts and crafts, antiques, a bouncy house and pony rides for kids, face painting and karaoke. The entry fee is $1 per vehicle. The meet is on the Tulalip Reservation at 10300 27th Ave. NE, behind the Tulalip Casino and Hotel Resort.

Shred it: Mountain Pacific Bank in Everett is hosting a free Shred Day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. Bring up to 50 pounds of documents to be shredded securely by Shred-it. The bank is at 3732 Broadway. Call 425-263-3500 with questions or for more information.

Epic tale: Hear Trinity Lutheran College professor Dave Ellingson talk about his epic journey 2,300 miles down the Mississippi River. Ellingson will speak at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Everett Public Library. Read more about the trip in our earlier story here.

Green: Help clean up at Evergreen Playfield Complex from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday. Volunteers should meet at the parking lot, 22205 56th Ave. W, at 9 a.m. in comfortable work clothes, with gloves and tools. A lunch to thank volunteers follows the event.

Gardening: Learn about sustainable gardening at two events on Saturday at Camaloch Golf Course Chalet, at the corner of McElroy Drive and Camaloch Drive, Camano Island. From 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., learn about sustainable gardening, including use of native plants and less toxic lawn care products. From 1 to 3 p.m., build your own rain barrel.
