SEATTLE— A bulldozer driver was trapped for five hours when it was hit by an avalanche at Chinook Pass.
The state Transportation Department says the driver was not hurt Thursday and had good ventilation, so rescuers executed a slow and safe rescue.
KOMO reports crews have been plowing and blasting their way through heavy snow on Highway 410, hopping to open Chinook Pass by Memorial Day weekend.
More than a foot of snow fell this week on the pass on the east side of Mount Rainier.
