CAMANO ISLAND — Two people escaped a house fire on north Camano Island on Saturday afternoon uninjured.
The fire was reported about 4 p.m. north of Utsalady Road, assistant fire chief Levon Yengoyan said.
Crews arrived to find about half the roof in flames, Yengoyan said. The house sustained extensive damage. No injuries were reported.
The American Red Cross was assisting the two adults who were displaced.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation but preliminary evidence indicates it started in the fireplace and spread to the roof, Yengoyan said.
Crews responded from throughout Camano Island, as well as the North County Regional Fire Authority and Arlington.
