Check out these fascinating views of Everett, showing where people like to bike (above) and run (below).
This image is just a tiny section of a map created by Nathan Yau.
Yau used data from the app Strava to create these maps for the entire world. The app tracks routes for bikers and runners. Yau mined that data to show which routes were most popular with Strava users.
A look at Everett, for example, shows that a lot of people like to bike along Mukilteo Boulevard — no surprise there. There’s also a pretty intense grouping near the Boeing plant. It’s especially bright for bikers, but it’s also popular with runners. Maybe Boeing workers really like to run and bike before or after work. Or perhaps they tend to enjoy slightly geeky apps such as Strava.
For runners, Mukilteo Boulevard is popular, as well as W. Marine View Drive and Grand Avenue in North Everett. My favorite running spot, Spencer Island also shows up, although the paved Langus Riverfront Trail nearby was more popular. The Lowell River Trail is also well traveled. The Interurban Trail, which I’d expected to glow brightly, was actually rather dim for runners, although very bright for bikers.
