EDMONDS — Police have finished their investigation into the death of a woman who was struck by a car in Edmonds in January, and no criminal charges will be filed.
Eleanor “Ellie” Bonanno, 85, was hit by a car just before 5 p.m. Jan. 20 in the 800 block of Walnut Street. She was taken by ambulance to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, where she later died.
The driver, a 67-year-old Edmonds man, cooperated with police. Detectives forwarded the case to the city prosecutor for review, Sgt. Mark Marsh said.
The prosecutor determined that the crash was a “tragic accident,” Marsh said.
“The charging decision stated that no evidence existed to demonstrate that the driver acted in a reckless or negligent manner, there was no evidence that the driver was impaired by drugs or alcohol, or that he was speeding or that he had been distracted by phone, music or any other device,” Marsh said.
Bonanno, a mother of five, grandmother of six and great-grandmother of three, taught in the Edmonds School District for more than 20 years. She lived in the same home on Walnut Street since 1956, according to her obituary.
