Scattered demand for pot store licenses in Snohomish County
But one town is without any eligible applicants for its pledged store.
Lotteries are under way to decide which applicants get the first shot at retail licenses in Everett, Mountlake Terrace, Marysville, Arlington and Lake Stevens. There's also one for those looking to operate a store in an unincorporated area of the county.
A lottery is conducted where the number of applicants for a license exceeds the number of stores allotted to the community by the Washington State Liquor Control Board.
Results of the lotteries are scheduled to be made public Friday.
Competition is fiercest in Mountlake Terrace where there are 16 applicants and only one license, according to information from the state agency. In Everett, 27 applicants are vying for five and in the unincorporated area there 87 applicants and 16 licensed stores.
There's no lottery in Mukilteo, Mill Creek, Lynnwood and Edmonds where the number of applicants equalled available licenses. That doesn't guarantee anything as each applicant must still be subjected to a rigorous background check.
Meanwhile, the city of Monroe is allocated one store but as of now there is no eligible applicant seeking the license.
Here's the latest information provided by the state agency.
