Expect delays on Highway 9 bridge over Snohomish River

Starting Monday, drivers should expect some delays over the Snohomish River bridge during maintenance work.

Here are details in press release from the Washington state Department of Transportation:

SNOHOMISH – The State Route 9 Snohomish River Bridge is going to get a heavy-duty spring cleaning the next two weeks and drivers should prepare for congestion and delays.

Beginning Monday, May 5 and potentially lasting until Friday, May 16, Washington State Department of Transportation bridge maintenance crews will be on the bridge from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily, giving it a thorough washing. No work will be done on Friday, May 9. During the work hours, traffic will be reduced to one lane and flaggers will help alternate traffic through the work zone. The bridge is located north of Harvey Field just before entering the main Snohomish downtown area.

The bridge washing work is expected to create congestion into and out of Snohomish so drivers are encouraged to add extra time to their trip or consider using alternate routes.

Bridges can accumulate a variety of substances over time that can damage the structure, such as dirt, mildew, road spray, chemicals and bird and animal feces. Washing the bridges regularly can reduce damage and improve the efficiency of WSDOT’s bridge inspection program.

Before drivers head out the door, they can get real-time traffic information on their phone with the WSDOT traffic app. Current traffic conditions can be found on the Seattle Traffic page. Information can also be found by following the WSDOT traffic Twitter feed and the What’s Happening Now page.
