A Granite Falls man who wants to repeal Obamacare and replace the federal income tax with a national consumption tax has launched a campaign to unseat freshman Democratic Congresswoman Suzan DelBene.
Robert Sutherland is the third Republican to enter the race in the 1st Congressional District, joining previously announced candidates Pedro Celis of Redmond and Ed Moats of Arlington.
Sutherland says on his campaign website that he is running to “create a constructive dialog with you as we hand a pink slip to our current Congresswoman because of her role as part of the rich political elite class in Washington DC that is responsible for all the recent mess we see in our country (like her support of the disastrous ObamaCare).”
Most political observers expect DelBene and Celis, a former Microsoft engineer, will be the top two finishers in the August primary and face-off in November.
One of the reasons is money. DelBene and Celis are raising the sums of money needed to reach voters in the district which stretches from east King County to the Canadian border. The other two are not, at least not yet.
DelBene had $894,000 in cash on hand at the start of April and Celis had about $200,000. Moats and Sutherland each reported less than $1,000.
