COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Authorities say a large fire at a power plant in Colorado Springs is under control.
Colorado Springs Utilities spokeswoman Patrice Lehermeier says one contractor was hospitalized and more than 22,000 people temporarily lost electricity during Monday’s fire at the Martin Drake Power Plant.
Investigators are still trying to determine the cause of the blaze.
Lehermeier says the 62 employees who left the building are accounted for. Police and firefighters evacuated homes and businesses within three blocks of the plant during the fire.
The Gazette reports the fire sent a huge plume of dark smoke over downtown.
