AUBURN — A woman accused of taking her 6-year-old son from his grandmother at knifepoint, triggering an Amber Alert in Washington, has been ordered held on $250,000 bail.
KOMO-TV reports that a judge on Tuesday ordered Sandra Bennatts, 34, held for investigation of kidnapping, unlawful imprisonment, eluding police, burglary and car theft. Her next court appearance is set for Thursday.
Court documents allege that Bennatts, who does not have custody, forced her way into the grandmother’s home at knifepoint Sunday night, tied her up and took the boy, using the grandmother’s car.
King County sheriff’s Sgt. DB Gates says deputies tracked the mother through cellphone pings on U.S. Highway 2. She stopped in the Stevens Pass area and was arrested without incident. The boy was in the car.
